As most of the time in the Sauerland, climbing in Scharpenbeul takes place in an abandoned quarry. It is close to the Listertalsparre and the Biggetalsperre. So you will always find a nice place to spend the night if you happen to be there with a van. From the parking, it is a little 15-minute walk in until you reach the climbing spot itself. It is situated beautifully near a little river on an idyllic forest meadow. As the whole spot faces south, lounging out is as much fun as climbing itself.
Scharpenbeul offers roughly 30 climbing routes. All of them are easy to medium difficulty and very well protected. With 14 meters, the walls are pretty low as well. Altogether, this is more a family and beginner place than a place for performance junkies. Still, Scharpenbeul is an interesting climbing spot as the sandstone forms huge cuboids that you will climb.
