The Krefelder Hüttenfels is a lovely, small climbing spot. It is situated directly behind the Krefelder Hütte of the German Alpine Club. Park right in front of the hut and you will see the spot only 200 meters away. If you want to spend the night, you can even rent the hut.
The crag itself contains 16 climbing routes. All of them are easy (2 to 7- UIAA) and most of the time well protected, which makes it the ideal beginner spot. Rockwise, you will find the typical conglomerate that is characteristical for the Nordeifel. Vertical walls and some dihedrals dominate. Routes are never higher than 15 meters.
As the Krefelder Hüttenfels is not that big, you might look for a second option to go climbing. Thankfully, it is only 10 minutes away from the city of Nideggen, which holds plenty of other legal climbing spots in its proximity. Check out the area page of the Eifel for some examples.
